Automated clamping technology with highest repeat accuracy

The hydro-expansion chuck (HD chuck) has been the standard clamping device in optical manufacturing for decades. Mandler Engineering has developed an advanced, conical version that specifically addresses the weaknesses of the classic HD chuck – particularly with regard to automation capability and positioning accuracy.

01 Starting point

Challenge

Although classic HD-feeders offer high clamping precision and robustness, their automation is limited. When loading, positioning accuracies in the range of 0.01 to 0.02 mm are required – a limiting factor for fully automated production lines.

02 OUR APPROACH

Solution

The new, conical HD chuck combines the proven advantages of the Hydrodehn chuck with design modifications and optimised kinematics. The result is significantly simpler automation due to lower positioning accuracy requirements (0.5 mm) whilst simultaneously offering better clamping repeatability (0.001 mm).
